You can see the number of colours in the pattern from the colour palette. You may need to combine some colours into one - here you can see four shades of black. White is the base colour.

Edit your colour palette and redraw any areas you aren't happy with. The Find and replace tool is particularly useful for this purpose to consolidate your palette. Consider where you will carry your floats where you can without affecting the pattern. With the Gauge function in the Settings menu, you can get the right knitting aspect ratio for your work. Then it is easier to visualise the final pattern.

The size of the pattern in this example is 10 st and 14 rows. When knitted with fingering-strength yarn, the size of one tulip pattern is approximately 3.5 x 4 cm.
